Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

I am fascinated by comedy and comedians. Not the unfunny ones like that guy with the puppets. I don't understand the appeal and I don't think I've laughed out loud even once at one of his jokes. I suppose there are different types of comedy that appeal to different types of people. Anyway, I am constantly trying to find the humor in things and I find little more fulfilling than making others laugh. I don't know why. It's just a part of me. I'm sure there are psychologists who have studied the phenomenon and have all kinds of theories. But I'm kind of lazy (like a lot of comedians) and don't particularly enjoy or have the patience for scientific research. Comedians are by nature kind of a depressed bunch, and I'm not surprised by it, but I do find it touching just how broken down a man Michael Richards is. You might know him as TV's Kramer. I was curious to know if he and Jerry Seinfeld would discuss "what happened" on Jerry's new online show "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." It's the most introspective and dark episode so far and I'm going to call it the "Louie" of interview shows. The episode with Michael Richards is well worth a watch and it's only about 15 minutes long.

I despise the Ikea shopping experience, but that's not because the store doesn't provide a good product at a great price. It's because 95% of the people who shop there are complete morons. But this is a "game changer" as they say on TV about absolutely everything that ever comes out, but it actually applies in this case. Ikea has built a piece of furniture called Uppleva, which is no worse than any other name they come up with and is actually memorable unlike Malm or whatever, with a built-in TV and Blu-Ray player, as well as organized spaces and features for other electronics to be well hidden and orderly. This will be huge. But all of the dorky Apple lovers will poo-poo it while they hope and pray that Apple will finally bring AppleTV to market.

The B Movie Team

I used to get all psyched for sequels to movies I loved or when they would turn old TV shows into blockbuster Hollywood movies. I even got excited about the GI Joe movie before I started hearing about all the production problems and the fact that it wasn't screened early for critics. That's a very bad sign.

You know what? When they make movies about old TV shows, they almost always suck, because if they had a good idea for an action movie, they wouldn't need the gimmick of an old TV show (that's probably really terrible if you were to watch it today, by the way, but happened to be good during its time) to get people to watch it.

Doing remakes of movies from other countries, however, seems to work pretty well. Maybe they're smarter than we are.

I do have to make an exception for Miami Vice, even though many people think that was also terrible. The movie was directed by the creator of the TV show and more of an embodiment of his vision anyway. I loved it. Saw it twice in the theater and had a Miami Vice theme party on opening night. If you didn't like it the first time, give it another shot. Have I ever steered you wrong?

Oh, so the reason I was prompted to make this post is that they're filming a movie version of The A Team. As soon as I saw that on WWTDD, I heard the theme song in my head. Which brings me to another point of contention. Why don't they include the theme songs in the movie versions??? In the 80s the theme songs were the best part of the show. They got you all psyched up to watch. I give you Air Wolf, as an example. The opening song is so awesome that you watch the show even though it's terrible.

Hulu is now open to the public. I missed last week's episode of the Simpsons, so I can just watch it there. That's pretty awesome. I was actually a member but I can't even remember the last time I logged on.

Sumo no terebi

Check out Panasonic's new 150" flat panel TV. The best part is that they have sumo wrestlers on the screen. And one of them's a pretty badass black dude. That's awesome. They should call it "The Panasonic Sumo". It costs about $100,000.

Don't Waste Another Minute On Your Crying

Oh man. Please don't ask how I stumbled upon Kirk Cameron's website. It's pretty awesome how the theme song from Growing Pains just plays over and over, and also how many times he uses the phrase "full house of growing pains". Way to plug his sister's show, too.

On a related note, Joanna Kerns, Kirk's TV mom on Growing Pains, appears in the new movie Knocked Up. She's had some work.
