Straight Outta Miami

As a friend calls him, "living miracle" Erik Compton tied for 25th at the Northern Trust Open this past weekend. He also had the lowest round of the entire tournament on the final day. 64. You want to know how you shoot a 64? 8 birdies and only one bogey. And here I'd just like to break 80. This guy is so awesome. "Inspiring" is about the most mild adjective you could assign to someone who just refuses to give up his dream, while life throws him challenge after challenge. Not pretty awesome. Totally awesome.

I've been wondering if these all-black Heat jerseys that are shown in billboards and on line would become available to buy. They haven't worn them in a game yet, have they? I suppose they're waiting for a special occasion, like the playoffs or, cross your fingers, the finals.

Kanye's Style Consultant Is Cassius Clay

19 year-old Yale sophomore, Cassius Clay, that is. The dude was shopping at Barney's, when someone tapped him on the shoulder to compliment him on his outfit. That person was Kanye West, who has now hired Clay, forcing him to make the understandable choice to take a leave of absence from New Haven.

The Japanese Pop Star of the Future

I heard about this from WWTDD, who read it on Joe Rogan's Twitter. This is the first I've heard, but apparently there's a 3-D hologram named Hatsune Miku that is now a huge star in Japan. The Japanese are so weird. It's so awesome. I lived there for 3 months in 2002 and it's like being on a different planet. I loved it, don't get me wrong, and people often experience "reverse culture shock" when they return to their home countries after a prolonged stay there. Upon returning to the U.S., I experienced a rather annoying phase during which I would say "you know, in Japan..." about how much better practically everything was over there.

Here is a video of one of "her" performances, along with an enthusiastic crowd. Her singing voice is created with a computer program. I suppose this isn't much different than loving a cartoon character, like Homer Simpson, for example. I have said many times that I wish he were a real person and I were friends with him.

The concert footage of Hatsune Miku sort of reminds me of the Floston, Paradise shows in The Fifth Element.

USA!

This is probably the greatest commercial in the history of television. Even better than the "What Should I Do?" Lebron commercial.

Halloween Is So, So Awesome

I've been looking around for costume ideas for several friends, as well as my girlfriend. She got a couple of lame ones from the internet where it's just a bag with a bunch of ill-fitting components meant to look like a popular figure or character. I think the way you make a good costume is by using as much of your own stuff as possible (I once dressed as Neo without buying even one thing), and buying the crazy stuff that you might not have owned, like say, a patent leather yellow jacket when you're dressing as "Live at Wembley Freddie Mercury," or a clear rain jacket for Pat Bateman.

Well, I thought that "Michelle Jackson" would be a good costume and I started poking around Google. This is what I found.

She's not going to buy one of these, but it did give me some ideas. This is gonna be one sweet costume.

The Greatest Frontman of the Greatest Rock Band of All Time

Freddie Mercury, of course. And Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing him in an upcoming movie. I can't wait.
